Pocketbook of Orthopaedics and Fractures is a condensed version of the two highly successful textbooks Clinical Orthopaedic Examination and Practical Fracture Treatment by the same author. This new book fits perfectly in the coat pocket, and has a tough durable plastic cover. Its most unique feature is the illustrations, which are found in almost every page. Orthopaedics is a ‘visual’ specialty, and these illustrations make the subject come to life.

The Pocketbook of Orthopaedics and Fractures contains 528 pages and 29 chapters. It is well organised with clear headings and tables. In addition, it emphasises the general principles of orthopaedic examinations as well as the approach to specific conditions. There are also sections on basic anatomy, normal biochemical values, and the range of joint movements for quick reference in the wards or clinics. This book is invaluable for medical students, basic. Surgical trainees and accident & emergency staffs. As a medical student, I personally find this pocketbook a valuable companion for three reasons: 1) It is portable, 2) It is affordable, and 3) It is highly concise.

Although it does not replace the author’s earlier two textbooks, it does summarise the essential information. In the end, this is a truly remarkable pocketbook. For its price and the amount of information it contains, it is worth owning a personal copy.
