A wide variety of different fractures are seen in children and adolescents: most can and are treated conservatively. There are instances, however, where this form of treatment is either impractical or would lead to poor outcomes. Even with new methods of treatment such as elastic intramedullary nails there is still a place to use plate and screw fixation in paediatric fractures.
