Description
The attacks on the professions are now coming from within. Some doctors are less caring than others, but there is no doubt that the majority are hard working, strongly empathic, highly skilled and well prepared. Nevertheless, there has been a concerted attack against us by the government, the lay press, and now from the higher echelons of the profession. The culture of complaints is being fostered by a whole lot of organisations who seem not to realise that we are just not given the tools with which to perform our jobs in the fashion that we would like. In this atmosphere of siege, we continue to work long intense hours, without reaping any tangible benefits, and seeing our work and ideals undermined.
CME Orthopaedics has now reached its first year of publication. We were hesitant, at the beginning, that we would have found a place in the already overcrowded life of busy colleagues. It is now evident that we are setting a benchmark, and that we are going from strength to strength.
In this issue, we touch a large variety of topics, ranging from clearly clinical to more administrative ones, but part of our professional life and development just the same. Our readership has expanded, and so have the number of contributions, which are now coming from a wider geographical area. As the Editor, I can only be pleased that the Editorial Board has worked hard, and that we are succeeding in our mission. I hope that our journey of discovery will continue, with the collaboration of you all.
