Description
Soft tissue sarcomas tent to present as painless soft tissue swellings with no loss of function, and represent about 1% of all adult tumours. The age at presentation gives some indication to the nature of the soft tissue swelling. In selected patients, a long term survival following surgery of up to 40% has been reported. However, this is achieved only in specialised centres with a high throughput of cases. When such tumours are encountered, it is advisable that both biopsy and definitive surgery are carried out by the same experienced surgeon.
