Description
Blind and partially sighted people have some of the lowest employment rates of any distinct group of disabled people in the UK (25%).
Blind and partially sighted people have variable access to a range of multi-disciplinary support if they experience difficulties at work, but information regarding these services is often difficult to obtain and rarely joined up in the way it is presented.
A partnership arrangement between RNIB, the Employment Service, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital has resulted in improved multi-disciplinary working and a more effective support service for blind and partially sighted people at work.
Consideration should be given to partnerships working across traditional public/voluntary sector boundaries, as there are cost-savings and service improvements to be made which can benefit all.
