Description
The role of ocular aberration in degrading retinal image quality and visual acuity is discussed, together with the nature of the aberrations involved. Current progress in exploring the possibility of correcting aberration to give improved visual acuity is described. It is concluded that although correction using adaptive optics would be valuable in systems to image the fundus, the benefits of correcting monochromatic aberrations in the young eye by, e.g., laser ablation or contact lenses are more problematical.
