Description

Most practitioners will have come across the older patient who knows their vision is deteriorating and does not want to lose the right to drive. The real question that has to be answered before any advice can be given is ‘would this patient be a risk to themselves and other drivers on the road?’ To better understand this issue, a range of visual functions involved in driving and the effect of age on each of the functions are discussed. The likely impact on driving performance is then examined.
