Description

Accommodation is a vital part of the process of vision. Its prime function is to achieve a sufficiently clear image to enable the individual to identify objects in the world. Despite its importance in the vision process, testing of accommodation in optometric practice is often confined to presbyopes who are likely to have problems.

Accommodation cannot be divorced from convergence and accommodation and convergence should really be tested and treated as a single entity. For example the most commonly used procedure for convergence insufficiency is the pen to nose exercise. This is not purely a convergence exercise since accommodation is being treated at the same time.
