Description

The examination of the pupil provides a relatively easy, objective assessment of visual function that requires only basic ophthalmic equipment and little patient co-operation. The pupil is under the control of the autonomic nervous system and disturbances of pupillary function often accompany neuroophthalmological disease. The differential diagnosis of pupillary anomalies can facilitate the location of the causative lesion and aid in the subsequent management of the patient.
