The number of people with visual impairment is expected to increase significantly in the next few decades, leading to an increased demand for low vision services. An array of devices and techniques exists to support people with visual impairment. This article aims to provide practical guidance to clinicians to assist with the prescribing of conventional optical magnifiers and other well accepted techniques for enhancing residual vision. For those practitioners wishing to initiate a low vision service, a suggested starter-kit of devices is included.
