Multifocal Gorham’s massive osteolysis – A case report and review of literature

Author(s): S P Kale & A N Johari

Description

Massive idiopathic osteolysis or Gorham’s disease is a rare condition characterised by the spontaneous disappearance of a bone or contiguous bones around one focus. Involvement of the shoulder and the pelvic girdles is frequent but the ribs and sternum are rarely affected. Multicentricity has been described only once. We report a patient with multicentric involvement of the sternum and ribs. The relentless progression of the disease, evident in sequential radiographs with typical histological findings, confirmed our diagnosis of Gorham`s disease.
