Description
Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) is the commonest of primary immunodeficiencies with an estimated prevalence of 1:25000. Patients have hypogammaglobulinaemia and suffer mainly from recurrent infections with encapsulated bacteria; once other known causes of hypogammaglobulinaemia are excluded this history confirms the diagnosis. In addition to infection, 20% of patients develop autoimmune disease and about 10% eventually develop benign or malignant lymphoproliferative disease.
