Description
The major domestic reservoirs of mite allergen can be treated by encasing mattresses, pillows and duvets with breathable mite-impermeable covers and by replacing carpets with hardwood floors. Environmental control of pet allergens with the pet in situ is almost impossible. Patients need to be advised to part with their pets. If this is refused, then alternative, less successful measures can be advised upon. We outline practical measures patients can take to reduce personal exposure. However, it remains uncertain which patients benefit most from effective environmental control, and what is the size of potential benefit.
