Description
Milk and egg allergy is usually a transient phenomenon in children. However, it occurs at a time of maximum growth and development. Incorrect management can have far-reaching consequences for the patient. It is therefore essential that these allergies are correctly diagnosed and managed. This review covers the presentation, diagnosis, investigation and clinical management of children with allergies to cow’s milk and egg proteins. Milk and egg exclusion diets and the role of the paediatric dietician are discussed, as well as the treatment of allergic reactions due to accidental ingestion and the importance of reassessment and food challenge.
