Description
We report two cases of acute hepatotoxicity after treatment with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (Augmentin??) who presented with marked cholestatic features. Viral hepatitis serology and autoantibodies were negative. Biliary tree obstruction and other aetiologies were excluded. Liver biopsy showed cholestatic hepatitis in one of the patients. The relevant literature is reviewed and briefly discussed. Our patients received empiric therapy with ursodeoxycholic acid for pruritus. Both made a full recovery.
