In this issue the trainees again managed to commission an article and there are more coming up in future issues. Because of my interest and my current research in hepatology most of these reviews are in the field of hepatology. The TiG article in this issue by Prof. W. Roediger deals, however, with a luminal problem in gastroenterology. The aspect of nutrition in inflammatory bowel disease is clearly an important issue; it is discussed controversially and clearly needs further research.

I want to take this as an opportunity to encourage research registrars among the trainees in gastroenterology to write an educational review article on their research topic. There are currently about 100 out of the 370 trainees in gastroenterology in research posts and I am convinced that there are important teaching points of general interest that are worth writing about.
