Many hospitals are now using disposable
fenestrated suckers (figure 1) instead of the nonfenestrated
Zollner for the microsuction of patients
ears. This means there is an increased risk of
transmission of blood born infection from patients
ears to the doctor or nurses fingers – if gloves are not
worn!
