The Temporal Bone Laboratory An urgent need for reappraisal

Author(s): A-L McDermott, P Raj & D Morgan

Description

Cadaveric temporal bone dissection is considered a fundamental aspect of training in otolaryngology. In addition to the obvious purpose of enabling trainees to acquire greater confidence in microsurgery of the middle ear, the establishment and running of these laboratories is considered mandatory by the Royal College of Surgeons. It is therefore essential for an Ear Nose and Throat Department to have access to such facilities if it is to be recognised as a training centre for future Otolaryngologists.
