Description
Malignant melanoma of the mucosa of the head and neck region is extremely rare but is of particular interest in view of its unpredictable clinical course and generally bad long-term prognosis compared to cutaneous melanoma. Some patients, however, survive many years with metastatic disease and it appears there is a delicate host-tumour balance that influences prognosis and stimulates scientific curiosity in this condition.
