Description
The assessment of visual function, within a low vision clinic, must include quantifiable measurements of those aspects of vision which are likely to equate to changing levels of disability. In this article, the authors review the role of distance and near visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual field, colour vision and glare sensitivity assessments within the low vision clinic. The relevance of new vision-specific quality of life instruments to low vision service delivery is also reviewed. The impact of changes to the assessment procedure is discussed in light of the ever increasing demand for improved and more freely available services.
