Submasseteric abscesses are rare and easily misdiagnosed
as parotid swellings. We present a case that was
misdiagnosed as a parotid abscess and highlight several points
that may aid in distinguishing the two conditions. The
anatomy, differential diagnosis and pathophysiology have
also been discussed.
