Description

Retinoschisis is a splitting (schisis)of the neural retina typically resulting in a dome shaped retinal elevation which may mimic a retinal detrachment. The majority are asymptomatic bilateral lesions acquired in adult life and incidental findings during routine fundoscopy. They do not require treatment or long term follow-up.A simple classification of retinoschisis and features which allow differentiation from a retinal detachment are discussed.
