Description

We present the case of a 49 year old man who presented to our department with a painful swollen left hand following thrombolysis administered through a cannula in this hand eleven years previously. Radiographs showed cystic changes of the hamate and subsequent investigations revealed chronic osteomyelitis involving the hamate secondary to the overlying intravenous line. Careful insertion and regular changes of intravenous lines are required to prevent such complications from occurring.
