Description

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are rising in the
Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) as a result of
lifestyle behaviour, social and economic status. The EM
Regions disease burden is expected to rise from 45% to
60% by 2020.
This paper outlines the impact and implications of
NCD on health at both national and regional levels as well
as the strategies for prevention and control for the region in
order to adding the regional average hypertension prevalence
of 26.5% and the regional average diabetes prevalence of
14.5%.
Some ominous messages about the current available
services for management and care, and offers of proper
challenges and strategies for the prevention and care of
NCDs and NCD Risk Factors are carried out. It expresses
how some of those possible NCDs involved in incidence can
be reduced and achieved in several cost-effective ways;
particularly primary prevention and adopting healthy
lifestyles among the community.
Cost-effective measures are outlined which can reduce
inequities among different communities with relatively
modest expenditures. Examples of international and
regional community-based success initiatives are reviewed
particularly in areas of primary prevention and care for
NCD Risk Factors.
