A case study is used to highlight the challenge of implementing best practice in the NHS. There is a long way to go before the NHS can be considered modern and fit for the twenty first century. Crucial to success will be truly new mindsets – not yet in abundant supply. Staff clamouring for less political interference have to demonstrate that the NHS can be safe in their hands and deliver value for money.
