Description
This article discusses some of the implications of the formation of primary care groups for routine information systems. Primary care groups will require accurate information on health status and the use of health care if they are to carry out their functions effectively. Some major changes will be required in the focus and outputs of routine information systems to achieve this objective. Areas in which it will be particularly difficult to produce accurate information for primary care groups in the short term include the population base of primary care groups, socio-economic data, and data on vital events such as deaths and cancer registrations.
