Description

Assessment involves collecting, measuring and
interpreting information relating to specialist registrars
responses to training. The record of in-service training assessment
(RITA) process is based on a structured trainers report that
is submitted to an annual assessment panel. The structured
trainers report is completed using competencies listed in
the training record book. The paper reviews the validity,
reliability, discrimination and usability of the structured
trainers report when used for the assessment of specialist
registrars in public health medicine. A number of strategies
for improving the assessment method are considered.
