Description
As the population ages and risk exposure shifts, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are rapidly becoming the leading cause of disability and premature death. For example, there were 151 million cases of Diabetes Mellitus worldwide in 2001, a figure that is expected to increase by 46% to be 221 million cases in 2010. The prevalence of
obesity, cancer, CVD, HBP and mental health are also on the increase. WHO estimates that by 2020, NCD will account for about 2/3 of the global disease
burden.
