Change and more change are part and parcel of living and working in today’s modern society. The health service is no exception. With changing population dynamics, technological advances and disease patterns the role of public health physicians in leading the agenda of change and achieving improvement in population and individual’s health is quite obvious. But, the big question is: Can we do it? Are we trained to do it? Can we learn from each other? This article, the first in the series provides a personal impression and observations about the value of change and the role of public health physicians. This section invites specific examples from practitioners who have managed to achieve change – sharing with others is one of the objectives of this paper.
