Description

The overall prevalence of myopia varies from about 2% to about 70% in different populations. The few incidence figures available suggest that about 3% of individuals are at risk of becoming myopic per annum in a population of Caucasian children, whereas the corresponding figure for Chinese children is about 12%. A relatively high incidence of myopia has been reported among people in certain occupations, for example microscopists and textile workers.

Myopia correction involves the provision of optical compensation to restore a normal visual acuity, and this is done via spectacles or contact lenses. Myopia control aims to retard the progression of myopia, while myopia reduction is intended to reduce extant myopia.
