In 1997 Freeth Cartwright Hunt Dickins published a guide for use by its experts entitled Medical Experts What We Expect From You. The guide was supplied to all experts used by the firm with a questionnaire seeking to ascertain their reaction. Overall the response was magnificent. Many experts indicated that this was the first written advice they had had on how to prepare a report. Many commented that they were now experienced and had learnt through trial and error but would have found the guide extremely useful when they first started doing medical legal reports. This article looks at some of the points made in the guide and experts reaction to them.
