Description

Successful treatment for retinal detachment is dependent on good examination, understanding the vitreous-retina relationship, and identification of retinal abnormalities and breaks. Surgical goals are relief of vitreous traction by external buckle or internal vitrectomy, and closure of retinal breaks using laser or cryotherapy and tamponade agents to promote retinal adhesion.
