Description
Refractive surgery procedures are continually being validated through carefully controlled scientific investigations in order to establish the predictability and reproducibility of the final outcomes. This article discusses intraocular refractive surgical techniques, with particular reference to their application, refractive outcomes and the risks associated with the interventions. Available intraocular surgical options are highlighted, namely lens surgery (i.e. clear lens extraction and refractive cataract surgery), and supplementary phakic intraocular lenses (i.e. additional lenses used in phakic eyes), either placed in the anterior chamber, or the posterior chamber of the eye.
