Presbyopia is a human biological condition with a rate of change faster than most.1,2 The reason for this is that the system involved is multifactorial.3 This aspect is often attributed just to the lens, which is subject to genetic and environmental influences such as temperature. Even authors who have denied these influences recorded different “adds” at comparable ages when studying inhabitants of the North and South respectively.5 Many authors have since obtained data showing that the accommodative amplitude diminishes faster in warm countries than in temperate zones.6
