Description

Foveal relocation surgery is being developed as an alternative option to laser photocoagulation for patients with subfoveal choroidal neovascular membranes (CNVM) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or degenerative myopia. Different surgical approaches, including the use of 360?? retinotomies, scleral imbrication, and redistribution of the neurosensory retina, have been used with variable success.

Most of these surgical procedures require extensive vitreo-retinal expertise and can be associated with a number of complications. In this article, we review the current surgical techniques for foveal relocation, their outcomes and complications, and discuss the feasibility of this form of therapy in the management of AMD.
