Description

A 31 year old lady of Afro-Caribbean origin presented to the orthopaedic surgeons a year ago complaining of pain and stiffness in her neck. An MRI scan revealed lesions in C2 and C4. A raised ESR at the time pointed to an infective aetiology and she was treated with antibiotics. Biopsy of the lesions excluded a neoplasm but failed to reveal any causative organisms. A year later she developed severe neck pain and dysphagia. An MRI scan performed on her second admission is shown in Figure. 1
