Description

Refractive surgery has shown an exponential growth over the last few years. As techniques become more and more refined it is important that all stages of the process are made as accurate as possible. Recently we have seen improvements in the lasers that perform ablation, the drugs used to control the corneal response and the methods of measuring the corneal shape. One instrument that has found a regular place in refractive surgery is the video photokeratoscope. The improvements and availability of photokeratometers has been partly facilitated by the growth of refractive surgery. Clinicians involved in contact lens work or anterior eye surgery find photokeratometers a useful instrument in their respective areas. This article aims to give an understanding of corneal topography and also its application in refractive surgery.
