Description
The introduction of a formal obligation of Clinical Governance in primary care presents a range of challenges for Primary Care Groups. The mixture of compulsory membership of primary care groups for practices, but voluntary participation in their activities means that introducing Clinical Governance will require sensitivity if is not to go badly wrong. This article looks at the work of one primary care group in developing a framework that has been broadly accepted across the group. The framework demonstrates that Clinical governance is much more that the introduction of protocol driven medicine and needs to view the activities of primary care from a variety of perspectives. The linkages between Clinical Governance and Education needs to be carefully laid out and the priority to engage practices and clinicians is at the heart of the early development of the work.
