Description
John A. Kirchner, M.D.
Publisher: Singular Publishing Group March 1998
ISBN: 1-565-776-7
This book is a legacy to the work of Dr John Kirchner and his work study on 442 total and partial laryngectomy speciments by whole organ serial sectioning. Dr Kirchner has selected seventy of the 442 specimens and has assembled them into a concise yet comprehensive synopsis of the spectrum of laryngeal cancers commonly encountered in clinical practice. The photomicrographs and clinical pictures are truly illustrative of the clinical findings and the “natural history” of larynx and related hyopharynx cancer. The volume includes one hundred and thirty four beautifully coloured and illustrated plates with a short explanatory test to go with most. The references cited at the end of each chapter are less than ten but have been selected for their relevance to the text.
This volume is a legacy of the dedication and scholarly earnidness of a surgical clinician who dedicated his life to the understanding of the malignant disease process that can affect the larynx and hypopharynx. He retired from active practice in 1985 and is to be congratulated and emulated by his continued interest in head and neck oncology. This book should be bought by all now as it will become a classic, probably never to be repeated. Singular Publishing Group are to be congratulated for their reproduction of the pathology specimen pictures and the photomicrographs.
