Description
With the increasing use of concurrent chemoradiotherapy regimes in the management of advanced head and neck cancers, the need for improved nutritional support has increased.
It is quite routine for enteral feeding tubes to be placed prior to treatment commencing and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes had superceded fine bore nasogastric tubes (NGT) as the method of choice. Nasogastric tubes are associated with dislodgement and repeated replacement, gastro-oesophageal ref lux, local discomfort and are cosmetically unacceptable to some individuals.
