Description
Nausea and vomiting are related but separate symptoms which cause misery for patients with a wide variety of conditions. There are no good, large, clinical trials of anti-emetics in a palliative care setting and so current best-recommended practice relies on extrapolating evidence from other clinical areas and from animal models. Anti-emetics should be selected according to the cause(s) of nausea and should be given by a route which ensures absorption. This article suggests an approach to prescribing anti-emetics in palliative care.
