Description

Prostate brachytherapy is increasing in popularity as an alternative to radical prostatectomy or external beam radiotherapy in the treatment of organ confined prostate cancer. The original technique which utilised an open retropubic approach has been superseded by a transperineal route using transrectal ultrasound to accurately guide seed positioning. In appropriately selected patients morbidity is acceptable and the results equivalent to radical prostatectomy and external beam radiotherapy with respect to biochemical control.
