Acute colonic pseudo-obstruction: Late use of neostigmine after failure of colonoscopic decompression

A71 year old man with severe osteoarthritis was referred for bilateral hip replacement surgery. Past medical history included depression and hypertension treated with amitriptyline and bendrofluazide. Under general and epidural anaesthesia, uneventful bilateral total hip replacements were performed. Durlong (Joint Replacement Instrumentation Ltd., London) components were secured with polymethyl methacrylate cement.
