Description
We describe an 87 year old woman who developed spontaneous lower abdominal bruising which on computed tomography was found to be secondary to insufficiency fractures of the pelvis and sacrum. Such a complication is rare and to our knowledge has yet to be reported in the literature.
Insufficiency fractures represent a cause of morbidity primarily in the elderly and we discuss their presentation, investigation, pitfalls and management.
