Author(s): C R Mitchell

Description

Smartphones and tablet computers give doctors instant access to the Internet, as well as the potential use of thousands of applications that can improve daily clinical practice. With a minimum of effort, information can now be searched for and used at the bedside, but modern web technology and handheld devices are more than just accessible textbook substitutes. Tools to allow filtering of news, opinion and academic publications into manageable, accessible streams are discussed, as well as methods to allow the storing and sharing of references. Further, smartphone utilities to identify drug interactions, use clinical scoring systems, and collaborate with colleagues are explained.
