Hyperlipidaemia is a common clinical problem and has gained considerable importance because of its involvement in cardiovascular disease. In this article the causes of primary hyperlipidaemia and secondary hyperlipidaemia are described. In each case the common biochemical deficiency is outlined and treatment options discussed.
