Description
Tumours which are found in the sella turcica or the suprasellar
cistern may have arisen either from the pituitary gland itself,
remnants of developmental tissues or other adjacent anatomical
structures. They mainly present because of the effect their
enlargement has on the optic chiasm or from hormonal abnormalities.
Certain systemic diseases may also affect this area. Some
tumours have characteristic appearances on MR, but many findings
are non-specific, then the age of the patient and mode of
presentation may aid in reaching the diagnosis.
