Description

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a highly variable disease and this clinical heterogeneity has led to inconsistencies with the classification of SLE patients. Classification contents were developed to operationalise the definition of SLE and to allow more direct comparison of studies and serve as a tool and guide for clinical practice. In this article the evolution of the classification criteria is discussed.
