Description
The 1997 reforms of the British National Health Services
have introduced radical changes over a ten year programme.
One of the main focuses of the reforms is the way primary
care will lead managed care and deliver effective services
at the same time. The main challenge to these newly formed
Primary Care Groups and Trusts (in the future will be Care
Trusts incorporating social care) is the delivery of the public
health agenda to the population in their geographical areas,
as proposed in Saving Lives: Our Healthier Nation. The paper
describes the experience of a general practitioner of this
evolutionary process and what the future holds for general
practice in the UK.
