Description
The trainee pilot had been flying weekly missions with the experienced trainer for three months but was only making slow progress. The trainee was good, but the skills he seemed to need were unlike anything he had experienced before. After a few attempts at making a manoeuvre the trainer would take the controls, make the manoeuvre and, sometimes, hand back control. The trainee thought he knew what had been done, but usually the manoeuvre was too quick for him to fully follow or understand. Furthermore, even when he managed the complex flying required to take him successfully to the Vater target, he had concentrated so much on the technical aspects that he had forgotten what to do next: either to take the x-radar reconnaissance pictures; or give adequate instructions to the aircrew so that his cannula bombs failed to find their target. He was very frustrated.
